Christmas projects 2011

This Past christmas I enjoyed my 'Merry Christmas' banner so much, that I shared the love! I made one for my sweet little niece Lola and added some pom pom that I made (so much fun by the way!). And I also did one up for My other nieces Holly and Greta who share a room. You can see a pic from in their nursery below. Adorable with that sweet map print. My kids enjoyed the idea so much that Evan decided to make one for his teacher. He did every last blanket stitch by himself!!! SO impressed for a seven yr old boy.

On actual Christmas morning the tree shone gloriously. It made me so happy to see the lights with all our ornaments lit up to tell the story of every christmas before. The kids on the stairs before opening. I made their christmas PJ pants and tried my hand at a nightgown for Vienna. I just love how they all turned out! I also made Housecoats for the kids and some hooded bath towels. (Vienna got a new full face helmet, which if you know my kids... she needs! And that's what she's wearing under that towel)

My Sis in law Katie made ME a quilt! Isn't it gorgeous!!! So much work! And so completely me! I was so thrilled to be surprised with such a treasure. I don't get many quilts made for me. This one sits so beautifully at the end of my bed. Thank you Katie for this gift!

And I have the quilt that I made for my Sister for Christmas, still to come. I forgot to take pictures before giving it to her and so I have to steal it back for a quick shot or two. I really enjoyed making gifts this year I tried to keep it reasonable. I made a few other things but this was the bulk of it. Christmas prep was much more calm this year. What have all of you made?

Summer Giveaway with J.A.C. Photography - Portrait

Back in August or so, Jody of J.A.C. Photography and I set out to do a giveaway. With weather schedules and a farmer's to battle it was a bigger deal then even we thought! It was so fun to work along side another talent and see things from a different perspective as a result. Jody has a great eye! This was so Fun! And the kids are adorable! Christmas Crafting

It feels so wrong not to have a picture to go with this post, but everything I am working on is so top secret I can't share! I am having so much fun doing it though. So much fun in fact that I couldn't bring myself to go to sleep until 4 am.... a couple of times. Kent does snow removal and therefore is gone for large amounts of hours at a time, and usually in the middle of the night. I don't like to sleep without him right beside me, so I sew. I have to tell you I have been getting so much done!! However my body gave last night. It made it very clear that I was not to take another snip, stitch or anything of the sort! It was time to sleep. SO I did and now I'll have to pace myself. I hope that all of you are having fun with your christmas projects. I love this time of year. Using both my skills and creativity in marriage to make things for the ones I love. There is just something so sweet about the anticipation of giving that can't be described fully. But I'm sure you know what I mean. I'll let you in on our plans for teaching the kids about such feelings in another post. For now I am enjoying seeing others projects pop up in blogging and I can't wait to share mine after Christmas.

Christmas Bunting

This was my very first Christmas project this year. I saw one in Anthropology that was similar and I couldn't stand to be without it! But at $180 cnd I thought I could make my own. This is my version and I am so happy with all the colour and vibrance. This is now hanging at my front entry and I think I can tackle anything Christmas now! One of the other plus' is sharing this project. Evan and Vienna both were eager to learn how to blanket stitch with me. Well learn they did! They helped do the stitching on all the circle and are now working on buntings for their teachers for Christmas. In total this project only cost me around $10 in used materials. SO FUN!!!

First Things First

Before I can start posting about christmas projects and my beauty of a tree (yes it's up already), I really need to post about the kids Halloween. I am not the hugest Halloween person. i think it's fun and all of that and I s=certainly eat enough of the candy to appreciate it, but I hardly decorate. This year though the kids were desperate for something more then pumkins. SO I got caution tape and spiders and webs etc... well guess what the tape didn't come off! Dollar store stuff just peeled leaving behind the color allover my front entry outside!! Never again!! But on a happy note, my kids were super pleased. Evan insisted on being a Zombie, I think I delivered. I refused to buy something cheap for not cheap at all. Vienna was a snow princess, Seger an Astronaut, and Felix a cute Elephant!! Glad I got that out there. Now onto Christmas!!

The other day I had planned to take my kids school pics for this year. I was sick the couple days leading up to, and well I didn't plan any outfits, it was crazy hair day at school. Things were not in my favour. BUT..... I decided that I didn't care about perfection, and that this was a perfect opportunity to be the fun Mom and just have at it. I didn't brush Vienna's hair, or change anyones outfits. In fact Vienna has on the scarf I was wearing that day. It became perfection.

To add to it all as I called the kids in from the yard for pics, I overheard them tell their friend, "We gotta go take pictures, my Mom's an artist" " Pictures are my Mom's art!" It made me so happy that they get me. That they understand what all the time away from them is spent doing. I am so proud of these kids. I think the images below show their personalities right now so well.

Nana and Grandpa - Portrait

This is the room that was in my mind my Nana's. The beautiful chesterfield and collectables all stay here. We were not permitted in the 'white room' as we called it. The carpet was always perfectly vacuumed. I love this room. I love it even more with my Nana in it. She is beautiful.This is my Grandpa down by the dog run. A place that I most associate with my Grandpa. He spent many hours down with the dogs, training. We were sent down with Nana's dishes full of scraps and introduced to many pup litters right here. Magic. I couldn't get over the inner model my Grandpa was showing me this day! Too fun!

I decided a year or two ago to make a quilt for each of my up coming Nieces and Nephews. I was super late getting this one to Solomon. In my lateness, I gave it to him without taking pictures first. Oops! Well Sol loves his blankie and I have not been able to borrow it back for pics since it's his go to blanket. But he was over the other day and willing to show me his charm so we took a few. The ones without him in it he stood by watching, concerned for the blankies welfare. So sweet.

I was so blessed to be at the birth of Clara. My cousin Lindsay invited me to take pictures for them. I was asked many times afterwards "How was it?" Well, I struggled to answer. It was very different from how I remember my children's births. Lindsay's birth was at the Arbour Birth Centre, in the water and all natural. Now I have to say after reviewing the pictures and going through the beautiful images, I was completely moved, even more so then in the intense moments that I witnessed. This was an AMAZING birth. The strength I see in Lindsay's face says so much. I am reminded why I feel so passionate about labour and the first moments of life. Thank you Lindsay. It will always remain a privilege to have done this for you.

Oh my sweet Seger! He had his first day of Preschool today, and he loved it! He actually stopped and sat in the hall at Evan's school yesterday when we dropped him off, he wouldn't move and insisted he needed to be in school now! Well the day has come and he did so well. However you can see below that Felix did not love losing his brother for a couple of hours. He was quite ticked about being all alone. He didn't stop asking where Seger was. As soon as we picked him up he mimicked everything Seger did. So cute! I love these little boys! Seger you are so confident and cool!

Note: it was mentioned in the comments that Seger wore his fave jacket. You know it! Seger has been obsessed with his 'soccer' jacket for months now! like since January. it barely gets washed and he has it right back on. Again totally cool kid! I went through a spandex phase as a child, he can have a jacket.

I am trying to process today. I feel so behind. I took a week or so off, and I am so glad I did! I have really enjoyed the time spent with just my kids, no work looming. However aside from the obvious editing of photo shoots, I have so much of this summer that I haven't even begun to share. Does it still work to post late and out of order and all of that? My perfectionist self says no. But I want to tell me, that better late then never. My kids have grown up so much lately. They are just surprising me daily. Evan has become just the most incredible big brother. I need to devote an entire post on just him. Vienna has really strengthened her spirit this summer. Seger cracks me up, he so badly wants to be bigger. Felix is becoming less my baby everyday. It's so fun to watch, but makes me so sad at the same time. I can't believe that this stage is slipping away so quickly. I love hearing his chirpy little voice around the house more then anything right now though.

Today was the first day of school for Evan and Vienna. Evan has the same teacher as last year and I couldn't get over the confidence that gave him. He introduced himself to a new kid and started making the introductions to all his class mates. I'm so proud when I see him being a good person. Vienna and her cousin Talon are both going into Grade one. He's new to our school and we requested them be int he same class. Well we arrived and they were not! Vienna and Talon were VERY emotionally distraught. We quickly and easier then we thought, got them in the same class, they are now happy as clams! I hope they stay out of trouble!

Here they all are. I love the closeness between these three! It makes me happy that they will be able to look out for each other. So both my oldest in school all day! I can hardly believe that I am down to one and two kids 5 days a week. I am excited for this new time with the little boys, but very sad to be losing so much time with the older two. School now gets them the best hours of the day. Something that I will battle all year long. Here comes a new challenge in that beautiful thing called balance.

I love my kids. I am so blessed to have their incredible spirits in my home. I hope they know that. I'll have to work hard to make sure, just in case. A great responsibility, worth while.

Meet the Rice's. I loved this session. It was a birthday gift from Suzanne's sister Mary Ann (my bestfriend). I'm so glad that both of them were born! Yay for birthdays! Suzanne you are beautiful! I caught myself grinning practically ear to ear while editing. All of you exude beauty. The kind that is somewhat rare. You have a calm and happy spirit to your family. I am so glad I was able to capture some of that. Oh and Dave your handsome, those girls frame you so well!

This photo shoot did NOT go as planned. We ran into some bumps and the light went a little funny on us, but the girls luckily, were sweet and cooperative. Despite the bumps and bugs I ended up with some good shots, here is the first look at just a few. Enjoy!

My sister and her husband are shall we say die hard Calgary Stampede fans. They go to every stampede event they can fit in during stampede, Bjorn has even planned vacation time to be available! Well Bjorn being as such, went downtown LAST NIGHT with his two oldest daughters and slept in the Westfalia Van just to secure a great spot for the next morning. What an adventure! Lucky us he called this morning to say there was some space left and that the Duke and Duchess would be leading the parade and coming by their section very soon! We bolted out of bed and threw together clothes and snack (ie breakfast). We missed the practically caged Duke and Duchess, but made it for the rest. Parking was a trial, I cried at one point.

But after Seger got over his lack of cowboy boots this kid was in his element! He had a blast and was very social. He got some loot from the police men and had a great day! I had no idea he was such a cowboy at heart!

He had a hat too , but somehow I missed getting a shot with it on. He was so cute!
But all that action had him tuckered out soon after hitting the door. I love you Seger! You are one cool kid!
(oh and he changed into shorts before he fell asleep, this kid changes clothes more then a girl!)

Sarah and Ross are expecting their first baby. They don't know the sex of this wee one, but they do have a few names narrowed down, all of which are delightful. I had so much fun meeting the two of you, and very much enjoyed hearing the Scottish in your voice. I hope your little one sounds just like you! How cute would that be! So our first try at doing these shots was 'special'! It was windy, and starting to rain and these little girls were such troopers!!! It was a long afternoon and all the balloons popped, my intended backdrop mural had been sandblasted away, not much was working in our favor. But despite all that we still got some really great shots, and when everyone came for the reshoot, we got AMAZING shots!! I'm so thankful for all the cooperation of the parents. Oh this scrumptious bit of heaven is what fills all those baby yurns. Little Oliver has the most creamy skin! He's so handsome! More then I love this little boy though, I love watching his parents more then anything. Ashley and Mike, it is so neat watching you two support one another and meet Oliver's needs. This is why I love taking pictures of maternity, birth stories, and newborns. I love witnessing this process of new life, and really this gift we have to experience this in our lives. I hope I never stop seeing this magic.

Father's Day 2011

Father's Day is a great day! We so enjoyed having so much time with Kent. The kids and I woke up early to make eggs benedict (a family tradition) for breakfast before going to church. Felix was asleep when we got back home, but I still took a pic of Kent and the other three. And Kent was nice enough to take a few shots of me too.

Kent is this incredible Dad. I often admire his patience, or his calm with the kids. He loves them so well, and balances me out, in the parent department with ease. Kent is fun! He is always greeted with hugs the second he hits the door, and often begged not to go! The other thing is this man gets up more in the night with the kids then I do! What a blessing. I adore this man, the father of our children. I think he's super handsome too! Thanks for making beautiful kids with me Babe. They sure are spectacular little people.

Then we headed over to my Dad's place with his gift from my Mom. A new bike. He loves it as you can tell!

Isn't my Mom Cute?! Aren't they even cuter together?! (My Mom just got her bike this month too)

This is my Dad's racing game face! I love that my Dad does everything whole heartedly!
And of course the kids wanted to ride a little too. Here are my kiddos in action! P.S. Seger has not stopped wearing this jacket except to be washed (against his wishes) since APRIL! He calls it his soccer jacket and even wears it to bed some nights. He's a little attached!

Before we left my folks house, my brother and his clan showed up. What a treat! My Brother is an amazing father too, and loves his Five kids. I only managed to capture the oldest and the youngest, and their good looking Mom too!

Two times 3 - Calgary Child Photographer

These little girls are cousins, who are all turning two this month. Lucky little girls to have each other so close in age. Their Grandma, oma, Nana, (not sure what she goes by) won a photo shoot with me and decided to use it for these beauties! I'm so glad she did. This was just a really fun shoot! I was so excited going through the edits. I just can't get over Sadie's CUTE smile, and those little curls of Lexi's had me swooning and Sawyer is just so dainty and elegant! As an added bonus I knew their Mom's while I was growing up and it's always fun to see them too! Enjoy the peek. Evelyn you have beautiful Granddaughter's!

This Cute button is my niece Greta, you've met her on here before. She is growing so fast! What a cutie! Doing this impromptu shoot only took a few minutes, but what fun! I've decided I need to get some one on one time with each of my nieces and nephews and do quick shoots. I love them all so much!
