Halloween'12 - My Kids

Vienna really was the scariest of them all. That black wig, and makeup.... she looked 16 to me! So scary!!! Evan once again couldn't live without being something on the creepy side, so Zombie again it was. Seger loves to be handsome, so a knight was a perfect fit!! He looks so honourable! And Felix fit the tiger, so the tiger he was. I think he makes a pretty adorable roar! he is our loudest child anyways.
Another Halloween down and far too much candy to eat. 4 kids bring in quite the haul!! 2 superstore green bins to be exact, and we only did our little block! The kids did great even though it was freezing cold and snow on the ground. We did parties at school and a friends epic halloween party after school and I'm tired.

How to lose 50+ pounds!

I have been hitting spring cleaning long before our Calgary weather is! In fact we have several inches of NEW snow just today! Really it is absolutely ridiculous! But like I said despite being cooped up, I have found an upside. I am purging all things unnecessary! You all saw my giveaway a few weeks ago. Well that was the beginning. I had wanted to get rid of all those bins of outgrown clothing, but didn't have a great place spread out and do that. In fact I was rather emotionally and physically overwhelmed everytime I walked by the BOMB that was our toy room. I let it immobilize me till I was doing no house work at all! Gross! After a scissor incident that led me to believe that my kids were so bored with their toys that destruction of other property was more entertaining, I decided that enough was enough! I started off with "the kids are losing everything! I mean every- last- toy!" Then my Mom tried to talk me off the ledge. I didn't budge! My husband encouraged me with support and time. I came down a little!

(this is not my toy room. mine was worse!)
The result was. I packed up (with some help from naive kids) all the toys worth keeping. That was the hardest part of it all. We have GOOD toys! Everything seemed to have value. I had to adjust my thinking to "Was it valuable to US right now?". We sorted into giant ziplocs from the dollar store all the 'little people', all the cars, all the ponies, etc. until bed time. We put the kids to bed. Seger knew something was up "Mom why we not cleaning so much?" like I never let them go until the job is done. Once the troops were down we got down to business!

We threw out 1 large garbage bag of toys that were broken, missing pieces, or just plain junk. We donated 1 large garbage bag to Value Village, toys that were okay but never really interested our kids.
We gave away or sold 1 large garbage bag of baby toys that our kids had outgrown. Oh and a wooden play kitchen and food.
We packed up the rest into 3 large rope tote bins and 1 garbage sack, and a few odds and ends of bigger toys.
Yes I know that sounds like so much stuff!!!!! It was!

We kept out 2 Ikea bins of toys for the little boys, our family arsenal of nurf guns, 1 set of blocks, and Evan got to keep his Bakugans which he had been responsible with, and Vienna her barbies and barbie house that stay in her closet, which she had been responsible with. You know, for a show of good faith when this all hit the fan.

The Room looked so empty and beautiful!!! I was immediately motivated and spent the entire next day cleaning HAPPILY! My house started to look the way it use to.

The kids reaction you ask?? Well let me tell you. They came rushing into our room!
Kids - Where are all the toys?
Us - We told you we finished cleaning up. Now go play!
And they did. That's it, that's all.

After school they asked more specifically. That's when we had a family meeting. We were clear about why they lost everything. We were clear that they would not get everything back. And we were clear that they would have to EARN what they did get back. We set out chore charts. They have to earn 25 stickers each, for specific, new and regular chores. Then they get to earn back 2 things each. That's right! That is all that is coming back! The rest will be for sale! I'm a GENIUS! The kids couldn't wait to get started!

My kids don't miss any of the toys! In fact they have never played so many imaginary games all together. They have been happier, they function better, they clean up better, and I don't want to bring any of it back! I LOVE THIS PLAN! The best part is it cost me nothing to teach them respect for belongings and it cost me nothing to reward them, and I gained help around the house!

I would strongly recommend purging your unnecessary items. Our society has fooled us into thinking that our kids need stuff!! Well they don't! They don't need all of that stuff, just a few things. Try it!

P.S. In addition, I also donated 4 garbage bags of clothing (kent's, mine, or kids) to VV and have been selling the big stuff on Kijii. This spring is gonna be so light!

Fridays

Fridays, well some fridays, are becoming my favorite day. Vienna only has kindergarten on Fridays a couple times a month. So, when she's home, these three play famously!! I am so enjoying watching Felix join the ranks of siblings. Vienna doesn't want to leave Felix alone, in a loving way, and she won't leave Seger alone in a pestering way; but Seger forgives easily. Seger is best little buds with Felix, he putters along with him. Really Seger is best buds with anyone. The kid is just loveable! Fridays are happy! Fridays are fun.

People are asking

It isn't all that uncommon for me to get comments when out with all of my kids at the mall, grocery store, or good ol wal-mart. I get alot of " Are they all yours!?" followed by " How old are you?" (thank you by the way). I also get alot of " Your Brave... I would never, if I had that many"

So yes, I do take all four kids under five, to the grocery store etc. But not always. I do also enjoy a trip to the store by myself when I can think clearly. Those would be the big shopping trips. You can only fit so much food with 3 kids in the cart and one on your chest. And yes we did have them close together. That makes them best friends (worst enemies) and great at entertaining one another. Having them so close also means that I could get my body back sometime in the future while I am still young. As far as being brave, well I guess I feel like I am some days! It does take some courage to go out and expect to get something accomplished with four kids. There are some times that it feels perfectly normal to do such things too. Whenever I go out (almost everyday) I am always glad I did, because it means that I CAN.

I tell friends that I do a 'Do or Die' trip in the first week after having a baby with all the kids. I make a trip out of the house to do what seems to be the impossible. After Evan it was go to wal-mart for a nursing bra at 4 days old. After Vienna...( I can't remember everything) After Seger I went to the mall at 5 days old. After Felix I went grocery shopping at 4 or 5 days old. I do this because chances are I will make it through, and once I have..... da,da,DA, I can do anything!! ( I still cry sometimes but that's healthy)

So here are some pics to enjoy of the crew, otherwise fondly known as the hooligans!

Still here...

This isn't Felix, but I imagine him being just about as squished! Looks uncomfortable!

Yup, no baby! 39 wks and 3 days.... feels like I am about a week over though. Those other 3 kids of mine gave me a false sense of earliness! I am trying REALLY hard to believe that there is a blessing in disguise here. That there is some great explanation why my body is being put through this torture, I'll keep you posted if I ever figure that all out.

In the meantime my kids have not asked about how long this whole baby growing stuff is going to take, for the entire 9 months, but today even, my 3 year old Vienna is aware that this is a long time! I have been hearing.....
" What's taking Felix SO long to get here?"
" Let's go to the hospital, and just do it"
" Just do it Mommy" " Get Felix"

So yeah..... I'll let the doctor know, we would like to 'Just do this' please! COME OUT BABY FELIX!

P.S. if this baby is still going to insist on a couple of more days, I have a couple requests..... indulge me.
1. Be small!
2. Stop faking me out with good contractions
3. Be small!

38 weeks and counting!

I am 38 weeks and COUNTING each moment that passes! I have been early with all 3 of my babies and really that has set me up for nothing but bitterness if I don't go into labour soon!
As you can see I am getting much more round (understatement) but at least baby Felix has dropped. I say that as if it's a good thing.... but really it means that his head is just lodge nice and low for added discomfort until he decided to come. I mean I'm not trying to complain, but some how the last days of counting down brings it out so naturally in me!
I am sporting this super cute tee my Mom had made for me, it says " I due, in June" A little apple obsessed fun!
So to pass the time I have been sewing up a storm! I will have pics to come! I have been finishing off curtains around my house that were long over due! Seger's cowboy room, my master room, and I am hoping to start the kitchen nook ones this afternoon! I'm in nesting mode and trying to tie up all the loose ends. This has also led to a very strict bed making schedule for some reason. I know the kids are just going to nap in their beds in a matter of 3 hours, but I just want it all neat, all the time! (Like this is a surprise to anyone that knows me)
So send happy dilating wishes my way, and hopefully I get to have this baby soon! My water breaks on the start of labour everytime, so I hope that I have the same luck and happen to be at home. Different scenarios of being in a store or at church have been running through my head. I have this great desire to stalk the van with towels just in case!
So this is as bad as it gets folks..... I hope I won't be posting pics at 39 or even worse 40 wks+

My first baby is 5!

I can hardly believe that I have a FIVE year old! Evan is getting so grown up. He's been a smiley happy, go lucky, let it roll off your back kid most of his life. Evan started out with so few fears of anything, it's almost been sad to see reality take it's hold as he develops little fears here and there. Still he is my handsome "little man" as we call him. Evan George Cranmer we are so thankful to have you as a huge piece of our family! Can't wait to see you as a big brother... again.
Happy Birthday Bud!

Evan 2 days old
Evan 5 years old

P.S. the tally is coming along... winner to be announced super soon!! We just had to take a break to do a birthday party up right for this handsome little guy!
